What does ‘fantasy as if reality matters’ mean?

Firstly, all fantasy is based on reality because all stories address universal themes. They just do it in different ways.

But I have a specific concern about ‘reality’ here and now at the beginning of the 21st century.

Things on our world are changing fast. Technology. Population. Environment. The loss of plants and animals, traditional knowledge, wetlands, forests.

Our reality matters. I’m afraid humanity is about to find out just how much.

Stories help us explore the world and each other, teach us to solve problems, entertain us. We need them. That’s what they’re for. I hope mine do that, just a little.

  1. I came across our notes in my Townsville file today, and noticed you had a novel in process. It is great to see you have a publication date coming up. I will put it on my calendar to look for a copy (…gosh, maybe I can come back to Townsville to get it autographed!)

    I hope all is well…

  2. Oceanheart really great! Little Mannu sounds so appealing (at the moment!), just up to chapter 5, so he (it?) may turn nasty! I have such a mind’s picture of him (yes, I feel Mannu to be a him) that I needed to draw him immediately.
Of course my Little Mannu may be nothing like your little Mannu – that’s the joy of a book; the pictures are in each reader’s head.

  3. I love Oceanheart! I read it in 2 days and I cant wait for the next book!! Hope it comes out soon! Im in love with this series.
